Train Hits Back of Trailer

Updated: Jan 31

At about 10pm on Monday night, an Amtrak passenger train hit the very back end of a tractor trailer that was on the tracks. This happened just east of Keenesburg, in Weld County, near CR-63, which was partially shut down early this morning.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, there were only a couple of minor injuries, as the EB train did derail due to the crash. More than 70 passengers were on board the ‘California Zephyr’ train, bound for Chicago, at the time of the incident. Most of the passengers were able to get off of the train, as several school buses were brought in to transport them to a nearby fairgrounds.

Those injured were taken to the Platte Valley Medical Center in Brighton. All Amtrak train traffic heading east was temporarily stopped in Denver, as WB trains were stopped in Lincoln, Nebraska. There is a lot of clean-up associated with this wreck, as crews are working to remove the damaged train cars, as well as repair the tracks. No estimated time of completion of the clean up has been given.
