In a social media posting from Wednesday, September 16th, at about 11 am, Fort Morgan Police Chief Loren Sharp stated that ‘After a great deal of thought, reflection, and probably more than a few conversations with the people closest to me, I’ve made the decision to retire, effective September 30th.’

No specific reason was given for his decision, as Chief Sharp mentioned that ‘for so many years, being a police officer has been such a big part of who I am. The badge became more than something I wore. It represented a responsibility I took seriously and a promise to serve people to the best of my ability. It has shaped the person I am, but it does not define me.’

Over the past few years, the Fort Morgan Police Department under Chief Sharp has had many positive outreaches to the community, including the monthly Business-Engagement-Awareness-Talks, or B.E.A.T. meetings that were open to all in the public, the annual BBQ with the Blue event held in Glenn Miller Park, and participation in the Morgan County Citizen’s Police Academy, along with the Brush Police Department and the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.

Chief Sharp went on to thank his family for their sacrifices and to thank the community for allowing him to serve for over 32 years. He also stated that he is confident that the Fort Morgan Police Department is in the hands of good people who care deeply about this community. No other details have been revealed at this time.

Fort Morgan Police Chief Loren Sharp has announced that he will retire from the department effective September 30, 2026.
