Fort Morgan Police Department -
At around 2:00 am, on July 28th, officers were called to the 200 block of Main Street for a call of "shots fired". It was determined that a male party was shot by another individual after leaving a nightclub. Initial information obtained at the scene indicated that the victim had been shot after leaving the nightclub by another individual who had previously been denied entry into the club a couple of hours earlier. The suspect shot the victim with multiple rounds from a handgun and ran south from the location.
Fort Morgan officers and deputies of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office arrived within a few minutes from the first calls into dispatch but could not locate the suspect. The victim was transported to the St. Elizabeth Hospital and later transferred to St. Anthony’s for his substantial injuries.
Over the next few days, officers and detectives worked diligently to identify the suspect and obtain an arrest warrant for 27-year-old Jose Quintanilla-Ramos, who is an El Salvadorian national that is illegally residing in the United States. The warrant obtained was for attempted murder and 1st-degree assault. Information obtained during the investigation led detectives to several potential locations for the suspect. With patrol officers and detectives working together to survey locations and interview many people about Ramos’s whereabouts, he has now been located.
On Wednesday, August 7th at approximately 1:30 pm, detectives who were conducting surveillance saw Ramos and contacted him a few blocks from his initial location. He was taken into custody without incident. Assisting in the investigation was the 13th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, the Brush Police Department, the Colorado Bureau of Investigations, and federal agencies all played a role in this case.
