The roadwork that started back in June on US-138, should wrap-up by this month. The Colorado Department of Transportation contracted Simon Construction for the widening and resurfacing work along the 10-mile stretch, northeast of Sterling, mainly between MM 3 and 13.5. Work continues near Iliff, so watch out for lane restrictions during normal work hours. During the $5million project, the existing asphalt was milled and filled, using 4 inches of NEW hot-mix asphalt, which was a technique used throughout the entire roadway. In addition to the smoother and wider road, crews also will be installing new signage, bridge and guardrail enhancements, brighter lane markings with shoulder rumble-strips and wider shoulders. These extra safety measures will help to prevent shoulder crashes and keep vehicles from veering off the side of the road.
