It was a decent midday gathering of people from around Morgan County on Thursday (1/16) at the Block in Fort Morgan as the Morgan County Economic Development Corporation presented their 2024 annual report. Just before the lunch, Vice President Clay Miller acknowledged & thanked the Board of Directors.

Following lunch, Executive Director Kristin Clifford-Basil gave highlights from 2024, while looking ahead for long-term community progress. First there was the acquisition of their new permanent building at 118 Railroad Avenue in Fort Morgan. The Revolving Loan Fund continued to grow over the last 12 months, issuing 2 new loans that totaled $60,000. Through enhanced communications and many networking events, their investor & community engagement grew, as one of the highlights was partnering with 12 investor businesses to create industry-related marketing videos & reinvesting about $23,000 in grants to support the growth.

There was also the VR program through the ROOTS-76 Workforce Development that engaged 50 students and facilitated 3 job placements. Next was a review of the finances, the profits & losses, the grant activity, and the 2024 draft budget. After that was a special presentation given by Dr. Dawn Thilmany, CSU Professor & Co-Director of the Department of Agriculture & Resource Economics, with a basic rundown of how Morgan County compares to the rest of Colorado in regards top things such as cost of living and the economy of the area. Manufacturing & Food Service industries are a couple of the strong spots for Morgan County, with a trouble spot being the aging workforce, and the ability to replace those aging workers.

This was ‘Part 1’ of the annual report, as half of the investors liked the midday lunches, and half enjoyed the evening event. This year the Morgan County Economic Development Corporation is doing both. The evening event, or ‘Part 2’, will take place later in the year, sometime at the beginning of May.
