On April 1, 2024, at approximately 5:15 p.m., while investigating an unrelated call at
1010 North 7 th Street #11, Sterling Police officers saw an adult male whom they
positively identified as Kolt Lee Jones, D.O.B. 07/48/1983. Jones was wanted by
Sterling Police on an arrest warrant for attempted felony vehicular assault,
stemming from an incident on March 27, 2024.
Officers immediately initiated contact with Jones, who retreated into the trailer,
refusing to comply with orders. Due to the violent criminal and past weapons
history of Jones, in the interest of community safety Sterling Police evacuated the
immediate area and requested the assistance of the Northeast Regional SWAT
team. The Northeast Regional SWAT team includes members from the Sterling
Police Department, Logan County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Morgan Police Department,
Morgan County Sheriff's Office, and the Brush Police Department.
A search warrant was obtained by Sterling Police detectives and over the course of
the next few hours, SWAT and negotiators made numerous attempts to
communicate with Jones, who would not respond. At approximately 8:30 p.m.,
contact was made with Jones who came out peacefully and was taken into custody
without further incident.
Kolt Lee Jones was arrested and held without bond, charged with the following:
Attempt Vehicular Assault C.R.S. 18-3-205(1)(c) Class 6 Felony
Obstruct Officer, Firefighter C.R.S. 18-8-104(4) Class 2 Misdemeanor
Resisting Arrest C.R.S. 18-8-103(4) Class 2 Misdemeanor
