Shine On Salute Honors Army Veteran Matt Meusborn on 9/11

On this solemn and meaningful day, September 11, Shine On Automotive and 97.5 BOB FM proudly honored Matt Meusborn with the Shine On Salute, recognizing his service, his stories, and the legacy he continues to build in northeast Colorado.
Matt’s daughter, Julie Amen, nominated him for the award, sharing how her father joined the United States Army at just 17 years old. Too young to buy a beer, vote, or even get married without a parent’s signature — but old enough to raise his right hand and serve his country. Matt’s father signed the paperwork, and Matt began a journey he still describes not as a duty, but “an honor.”
Matt completed basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, then transferred to the Aberdeen Proving Ground along the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. His job was recovery — retrieving equipment under extreme conditions. He recalled one mission where his team had to break through frozen Chesapeake Bay ice to recover a piece of equipment. “It took a whole day to warm up after that,” he said with a smile.
He later served at Fort Hood, Texas, working in artillery, welding, and ensuring every piece of equipment was ready to fire. Matt had the unique privilege of serving under General Patton, Jr., who shared his father’s famous passion for artillery and armor.
The skills Matt learned in the Army — welding, heavy equipment, discipline, and grit — carried into civilian life. After ranching in Walden, Colorado, he returned to his family roots in Holyoke, where he still lives today. He works for the local Co‑op, delivering fuel and always taking time to visit with veterans along his route. Julie shared that her dad is especially kind to fellow veterans, always thanking them for their service.
Today, 9/11/2026, Matt said this day is “triple special.”

Julie ended her nomination letter with a line that touched everyone present: “I don’t say it enough, but thank you Dad for your service.”
Today, we echo those words. Thank you, Matt Meusborn, for your service. Shine On Automotive and 97.5 BOB FM are honored to salute you on this very special day.
