After a few days of quiet weather across Northeast Colorado, the typical early summer weather pattern kicked itself back into play, as some big storms hit the region on Wednesday evening.
Severe thunderstorm warnings went out for Weld and Morgan Counties early on as the fast-moving system was tracking north and east at between 45 and 55 mph.
Things really got intense around 7:30 pm, as a major cell moved into Logan County, prompting a tornado warning from the National Weather Service through 8 pm. According to reports, the twister was spotted by weather spotters near Iliff and possibly Sterling. As a result of the fast-moving storms, several downed trees were reported, along with multiple tree fires.
There were a few highway crashes on I-76, as unprepared drivers were caught off guard, with reports of overturned semis and camper trailers on the interstate as well. Following the heavy rains were reports of standing water in fields, along with overturned pivots, and a large tree fell across Highway 138.
One home, a trailer house, was destroyed when it was blown off its foundation; fortunately, there were no occupants inside at the time of the incident. A large tree fell on the road next to the home, completely blocking the street.

The system tracked northeast into Sedgwick County, causing warnings for Julesburg lasting into the 9 p.m. time slot.
Yuma and Kit Carson Counties also had multiple severe thunderstorm warnings with heavy rains and 60 mph winds reported. Hail ranging in size from quarter to baseball was reported but not confirmed in many spots across all of the affected counties.
Power outages across the region were reported, as power was restored to the Sterling area around 11:50 pm. There is a 20-30% chance of showers and thunderstorms for northeast Colorado for Wednesday afternoon.
