On Saturday, August 22, at 10:40 p.m., the Colorado State Patrol responded to a crash on Yuma County Road FF, about a half mile north of Highway 34 and west of Wray. The crash involved a pickup truck and an Amtrak train.

CSP Troopers determined that a white Ford F-250 going northbound on Yuma County Road FF crossed the railroad tracks while the crossing guards were down because a train was approaching. The front of the Amtrak train struck the rear side of the pickup, pushing it approximately 40 feet into a field. The train did not derail.

The driver of the pickup, a 39-year-old male out of Wray, suffered serious injuries. He initially walked away from the crash and later was taken to a nearby hospital by a friend. No one on the train suffered any injuries.

The Colorado State Patrol is leading the investigation. The cause is still under investigation, and alcohol is being considered as a factor in the crash.
