Inmate escapes outside-party transport on Interstate 76 - last seen heading toward Fort Morgan
The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help locating a wanted man who fled from a transport vehicle on Interstate 76 near Fort Morgan Friday morning, October 16, 2026.
Authorities say 33-year-old Byron Roth was being transported by Advantage Treatment Facility from Sterling to Weld County to face felony robbery charges.
Around 10 a.m., near mile marker 79, Roth reportedly told the driver he was ill and convinced the driver to pull over. Roth then got out and ran east toward Fort Morgan.
The sheriff’s office clarifies Roth was NOT in the custody of Morgan County deputies and did NOT escape from the county jail. He was being transported by an outside service and was not handcuffed or shackled.
Roth was last seen wearing blue sweatpants and a gray shirt. Authorities say he also has an outstanding escape-from-parole warrant. He is 5' 11' - 180 pounds, with thin brown hair and green eyes.
Anyone who sees Roth is urged not to approach him and to call 911 immediately. Anyone with information about his whereabouts should contact the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.
