The El Pomar Foundation was founded in 1937 by Spencer and Julie Penrose, with a mission to enhance, promote, and encourage the well-being of the people of Colorado. It’s one of the oldest and largest private foundations in Colorado.
About $25 million is contributed annually through a series of grants in areas like arts & culture, health & human services, education, and more. Recently, El Pomar trustees approved over $135,000 that was allocated to five different Northeastern nonprofits.
Organizations receiving the grants were:
· Wray Community Child Care Center
· Early Childhood Council for Yuma-Washington-Kit Carson Counties (Yuma)
· Logan County – Sterling
· Prairie View Health Resources Inc.
· Kit Carson School District R-1.
The Northeast Regional Council for El Pomar recommends grants in Yuma, Washington, Phillips, Sedgwick, Logan, Morgan, Cheyenne, Lincoln, and Kit Carson Counties in Colorado.
