Dangerous High Speed Chase in Phillips County Leads to Arrest

Holyoke Police Department -
On Wednesday, May 21st, at approximately 8:50 pm, an officer of the Holyoke Police Department attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle that was driving with no operational tail lights. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the vehicle continued southbound on CR 41 and left the roadway several times, driving through fields and damaging crops in an attempt to elude the officer.
Additional units from the Holyoke Police Department were dispatched to assist in the pursuit. At this time, a deputy from the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office was responding to assist from CR 18. The suspect exited the field at CR 20 and fled westbound at a high rate of speed to evade both Holyoke Police and Sheriff’s Office units.
While traveling west, the suspect lost control of the vehicle, causing him to roll several times into a ditch near the intersection of HWY 385 and CR 20. Officers of the Police Department and a Phillips County Deputy attempted to apprehend the suspect, who began to resist arrest. Holyoke Police K-9 Gina was deployed and assisted in apprehending the suspect.
After being taken into custody, it was found that the suspect was under the influence of alcohol and was subsequently transported to the Melissa Memorial Hospital for evaluation after his arrest. The suspect was found to have suffered only minor injuries from the crash and bites sustained from K-9 Gina.
He was released from the hospital and transported to the Phillips County Sheriff’s Offic,e where he was booked on the following charges:
Vehicular Eluding (Felony)
Trespass on Agricultural Land (Felony)
Driving Under the Influence (Misdemeanor)
Resisting Arrest (Misdemeanor)
Obstruction of a Peace Officer (Misdemeanor)
False Reporting to Law Enforcement (Misdemeanor)
Reckless Driving (Traffic Misdemeanor)
Other traffic Violations.
During the investigation, it was found that the suspect had a substantial criminal history ranging from New Mexico and Colorado. Additional charges are being investigated due to the damage to crops caused by the suspect while driving through planted fields.
The above charges are alleged, and the suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
