The trial dates have been set for Clifton Boggess, Junior, the man accused in the October 2023 death of 25-year-old Yuma resident Britani Meek.

During a rescheduled arraignment Tuesday morning in Yuma County District Court in Wray, the court confirmed that Boggess will stand trial from May eleventh through June first of 2026.

District Judge Kimbra Killin presided over the hearing. District Attorney Travis Sides was present, along with defense attorney Anna Schamber. Boggess participated remotely from the Logan County Jail.

Proceedings paused briefly when Boggess told the court he believed he was supposed to attend the hearing in person. Judge Killin said no such request had been filed, and allowed him and his attorney to speak privately in a virtual breakout room.

When the hearing resumed, Boggess entered a formal not-guilty plea to all charges, which include first-degree murder, tampering with a deceased body, and second-degree kidnapping. Judge Killin also noted that motions hearings are expected to take place in February or March.

The hearing opened with District Attorney Sides questioning whether Boggess should continue with his current legal team. The arraignment had originally been scheduled for October, but was postponed after the defense requested more time to complete their investigation and attempt to secure an expert witness. Judge Killin granted that request and instructed both sides to arrange a three-week trial.

On Tuesday, Sides told the court the defense had been unresponsive regarding expert involvement and even in scheduling the trial, saying it appeared to be ineffective representation. He did acknowledge there may be strategic reasons behind the delays.

Defense attorney Schamber responded that Boggess wants to keep her and co-counsel Katherine McClaughlin on the case. She said she could not discuss details due to client-attorney confidentiality, and added that an expert ultimately was not needed because a key test had already been completed.

The three-week jury trial for Clifton Boggess, Junior is set to begin May eleventh, 2026.
