1. Soybean Futures Lower Overnight on Weak Sales

Soybean futures were lower overnight after export sales in the week that ended on Feb. 5 reached a fresh marketing-year low.

Sales of U.S. soybeans to overseas buyers dropped to 281,800 metric tons, USDA said in a weekly report.

That's down 36% from the previous week and 80% from the prior four-week average and the lowest since the 2025/2026 marketing year started on Sept. 1.

China bought 286,100 metric tons, Egypt was in for 167,000 tons, the Netherlands purchased 57,100 tons, Japan took 522,200 tons, and Malaysia bought 30,200 tons from U.S. suppliers.

Corn sales, meanwhile, jumped 99% from the week prior and 6% from the average to 2.07 million metric tons.

Japan was the big buyer at 616,000 metric tons, followed by South Korea at 336,800 tons, Colombia at 274,900 tons, Mexico at 195,600 tons, and Taiwan at 136,400 tons.

Wheat sales were also higher, rising to 488,000 metric tons, up 31% on a weekly basis and 14% on the average for this time of year.

The Philippines purchased 127,000 metric tons, Mexico bought 110,800 tons, Japan was I for 65,200 tons, and

Bangladesh bought 62,500 tons of U.S. wheat, USDA said.

Since the start of September, overseas buyers have committed to purchase 34.6 million metric tons of soybeans, down 20% year over year. Corn sales, however, have jumped 31% to 60.8 million tons, and wheat sales are up 16% to 22.5 million tons, agency data shows.

Soybean futures for March delivery fell 5¢ to $11.32¼ a bushel overnight on the Chicago Board of Trade. Soy meal added 40¢ to $308.30 a short ton and soy oil futures lost 0.51¢ to 57.03¢ a pound.

Corn futures for March delivery fell 1¢ to $4.30¼ a bushel.

Wheat declined 3¼¢ to $5.49¼ a bushel, while Kansas City futures were down 5¢ to $5.49 a bushel.

2. Corn Demand Remains Strong, Best Months Ahead, USDA Says

Strong demand for U.S. corn has led to improved year-over-year purchases and exports heading into peak shipping season, according to a USDA report.

Overseas buyers have committed to purchase 60.8 million metric tons of corn from the U.S. since the start of the marketing year on Sept. 1, up 31% on an annual basis.

Accumulated exports since the beginning of September have jumped 47% year over year to 34.7 million metric tons, USDA data show.

Still, peak season is just around the corner.

"U.S. corn exports typically peak during the March–May (Q3) quarter, which is yet to come," the agency said.

"The December-February (Q2) quarter corn-export quantity is generally larger than June–August (Q4), while September–November (Q1) is the smallest."

USDA in a monthly report this week raised its outlook for shipments in the 2025/2026 marketing year to 3.3 billion bushels from 3.2 billion bushels. That led to the agency reducing its forecast for ending stockpiles to 2.127 billion bushels from 2.227 billion bushels.

"While lower month to month, carryout is projected to be the highest since 2018/2019," the agency said in its report.

3. Warm, Rainy Weather Expected in Central Missouri

Temperatures in parts of central Missouri will remain well above normal through the weekend, though rainfall is likely, the National Weather Service said in a report early this morning.

Rainfall is likely late tonight into Saturday evening, the agency said. More than an inch of precipitation is possible along the Interstate 70 corridor.

In the southern Plains, thunderstorms are expected tonight and tomorrow, bringing hail and damaging winds to the area, NWS said.

Dry weather will move into the area next week, increasing the odds of wildfires in the Oklahoma and Texas panhandles on Tuesday and Wednesday, the agency said.
