The Sterling Fire Department responded to a semi fire on East Highway 6 on Wednesday afternoon (10/29) at MM 412. Dispatch had advised that the semi hauling cattle had its trailer on fire.

When units from Station 1 arrived on scene, the entire truck was ablaze. Members from the Logan County Sheriff's Office and the Colorado State Patrol started unloading the cattle right away. Crews cut the adjacent fence on the south side of the road to help the cattle escape the flames and go into the pasture.

The members of the Sterling Fire Department were able to get the fire under control quickly.  Highway 6 had to be closed down during the incident. The brand inspector from the Sterling Livestock Commission responded as well, to assist with the cattle, even on sale day.

The other responding units included Engine 10, Engine 3141, Medic 5, Fire 1, Tender 16, and CDOT.

By 4 pm, all of the fire units had cleared the scene, while tow trucks responded to clear the wreck. One lane of the highway remained blocked while the burnt semi was cleared from the roadway. No injuries were reported.
