Yuma County Sheriff's Office needs the public's help to catch an arsonist in the Vernon area

PRESS RELEASE: Yuma County Sheriff’s Office / Yuma County Sheriff Todd Combs - At approximately 5:15 PM, (Tuesday, February 17, 2026) there was another arson fire set between County Road X and Y on County Road 28 in Yuma County. If anybody saw any suspicious vehicles in that area during that time, please contact them, as security camera footage has also been requested. Yuma County Sheriff Todd Combs says the incident happened near the Vernon area.
*This isn't the first time that this has happened. Back on December 17th of last year, witnesses observed an individual setting the ditch on fire near Yuma County Road CC and 24. The arsonist drove off at a very high rate of speed, on CR-24 around 7 pm (MDT) that evening. It was confirmed that an accelerant was used to start that fire.
Numerous cases like this have been reported in the Vernon area. At the time, there was a $5,000 reward offered to help bring a conviction in these cases.
