Fort Morgan groundbreaking ceremony for the new Aquatics Center takes place - construction to begin

A big crowd of citizens and City employees gathered for the 11 am Groundbreaking Ceremony for the new Aquatics Center at the Fort Morgan Fieldhouse at 1239 East Kiowa Avenue in Fort Morgan on Thursday, November 5th.
City Manager Brent Nation, Fort Morgan Mayor Doug Schossow, along with Councilmembers John Kaper, Loren Boyett, and Bill Garcia, joined in the ceremony. Brent Nation addressed the group on a perfectly sunny day, just east of the Fieldhouse. 14 years ago, the ground where the Fieldhouse is, and where the future Aquatics Facility will be, was a cornfield where a vision of Fort Morgan’s growth was set into motion to create what is now Center Pointe.
Mr. Nation thanked the mayor and council, along with the Ad Hoc Committee, the crews with Assenza Architecture, and G.H. Phipps, who built the Fieldhouse originally. He also thanked community partners Cargill, Leprino Foods, Morgan Community College, CommonSpirit, the Morgan County RE-3 School District, and Evans Child Care Center. He acknowledged the City of Fort Morgan staff, especially Assistant City Manager Matt Underwood and Treasurer Kasie Edson.
Following that were speeches from Mayor Schossow, Assenza, Matt Underwood, and G.H. Phipps.
Now that the groundbreaking is complete, construction should begin Monday, November 9th. The facility is expected to open to the public in the summer of 2028. Once completed, the 30,000-square-foot Aquatics Facility will feature multi-functional rooms, a lazy river, swimming lanes, warm water therapy pools, and much more.
