Yuma County Sheriff's Deputy recognizes driver with felony warrant - pursues and captures safely

Yuma County Sheriff’s Office – Yuma County Sheriff Todd Combs:
On Saturday, March 7th, at approximately 2:12 pm, Yuma County Sheriff’s Deputy Masters was assisting a Sargeant on a traffic stop on Highway 34 just east of Main Street in Eckley, when Deputy Masters observed a gold Ford F-350 going westbound on Highway 34.
The driver of the truck was recognized as Chester Spelts who has a revoked driver’s license and is the subject of a felony warrant for possession of a stolen trailer. The warrant had been recently obtained by the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office.
Back in her patrol vehicle, Deputy Masters attempted to stop Mr. Spelts, who then took off through Eckley’s Main Street, reaching speeds of around 80-90 mph, before turning onto a property at 416 Porter Street.
Mr. Spelts was then observed exiting his vehicle, as backup was called in. Deputies lost sight of Mr. Spelts briefly, as they were given permission by the property owner to search for him. Spelts was found hiding in a broken-down Dodge pickup and taken into custody.
Including the felony warrant, Chester Spelts also faces additional charges including 1st Degree Motor Vehicle Theft, 2nd Degree Motor Vehicle Theft, Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender, and more. He was transported to the Washington County Jail.
