It was a packed room at the Cobblestone Inn on the west side of Yuma, for the Annual Yuma Chamber of Commerce Awards. The event took place Thursday evening, as chamber members new and seasoned gathered for dinner and conversation.
Many team members from the chamber were in attendance including President Marylu Smith-Dischner, Board Director Megan Hansen, and Treasurer Bob Carpio. Executive Director Arturo Moran was the presenter, as he highlighted many of the great events put on by the chamber over the past year, as well as the investment in beautifying Main Street with planter boxes and lights. The awards were given out to those people and businesses that made a big & positive impact on Yuma this last year.
The Community Persons of the year award went to the Serl family, who were all present. They are well known for their big Christmas displays that draw in hundreds every season. The business person of the year was Maribel Ayon who runs Mexsu restaurant on Main Street. The small business of the year went to Carniceria los Pinos, just off of E. 8th Avenue (HWY 34) between Albany & Buffalo Streets. The large business of the year went to Smithfield Foods, which has made a tremendous economic impact on Yuma. Congratulations to all of this year's winners!
