Wiggins Police Department -  It was brought to our attention that there were sightings of coyotes in the field east of Sally St., as well as in the adjacent neighborhood. Please consider the following preventative tips to hopefully reduce the number of coyotes wandering into residential areas:

1) Don't feed coyotes: Feeding coyotes can cause them to lose their fear of humans.

2) Dispose of garbage properly: Keep trash cans covered and take out the trash regularly.

3) Remove pet food: Don't leave pet food outside.

4) Remove bird feeders: Bird feeders attract rodents, which then attract coyotes.

5) Remove standing water: Get rid of old tires and watering cans.

Please keep an eye on your small dogs and cats, coyotes will make a quick feast of them. If you see a potentially diseased coyote in your neighborhood during the day, please let us know and we will respond, and/or let the Dept. of Wildlife know.
