Fire crews from the Wiggins Rural Fire Protection District responded to a grass fire near a residence on CR-O near HWY 52 south of Wiggins on Tuesday (6/25) during the noon hour. As temperatures hit the upper 90’s by that time of day, scanner reports indicated that the grass fire was spreading towards heavy duty equipment and trucks, as fire crews started battling the blaze. According to scanners the fire was threatening a couple of structures, and coming close to a fuel tank containing diesel, as the Fort Morgan Fire Department was dispatched for mutual aid at approximately 12:30.
Fort Morgan crews arrived on scene to help control fires approaching some horse trailers and an RV. After about 50 minutes the fire was under control, as Fort Morgan Fire was cleared at about 1:20pm, while Wiggins was back in service at 1:39pm. No cause for the fire was given at this time.
Another reminder of how hot & dry conditions can get in a hurry, and how everyone needs to be careful especially this time of year.
