CSP -

Shortly after midnight on Thursday, April 24th, the Colorado State Patrol responded to a single-vehicle crash on Morgan County Road S Near Hazel Street. Upon arrival, local police and troopers on scene found a gray Mercedes C300 had rolled into a water-filled ditch adjacent to the county road.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the Mercedes was traveling eastbound on Morgan County Road S, near Hazel Street. The Mercedes drove off the left side of the road and onto the side of an irrigation ditch. The Mercedes rolled down into the ditch where it came to rest on the driver's side, submerging it in water. The driver was a 34-year-old female.

The vehicle had two occupants - a 3-year-old female passenger and a 1-year-old female, both were in car seats. The driver and the 3-year-old passenger were able to exit the vehicle and were transported to a local area hospital. The driver sustained moderate injuries, and the 3-year-old sustained minor injuries. Tragically, the 1-year-old child was unable to remove herself from her car seat and became trapped in the water.

A Brush Police Officer was able to retrieve the child from the vehicle, and she was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

The Colorado State Patrol Vehicular Crimes Unit continues to investigate this crash. No arrests or charges have been made at this time, pending the outcome of the investigation.
