Sterling, Colo. — The Logan County Sheriff’s Office issued and later lifted two shelter-in-place alerts Thursday morning during what it described as an “active police incident” involving several federal agencies.
Undersheriff Dennis Aulston said the first CodeRed alert went out around 10:30 a.m. for residents near the 1700 block of Evans Street in northwest Sterling. A second alert shortly afterward covered the 19000 block of Chambers Drive, just south of city limits.
The notices urged residents to lock doors and windows and avoid the area. Both alerts were lifted shortly after 12:30 p.m., though Aulston said law enforcement would remain on scene.
He described the orders as precautionary while deputies assisted federal agents with multiple criminal search warrants. He added he did not know if federal agencies planned to release additional details.
