Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office - Attention, Sedgwick County travelers! Due to extreme high winds, we’re seeing significant hazards on I-76. At Mile Marker 168 westbound near Sedgwick, an overturned semi was blocking both lanes. The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning, with northwest winds of 35 to 45 miles per hour and gusts up to 65 miles per hour. Additionally, a Red Flag Warning is in effect, raising fire danger due to low humidity and strong winds.
CDOT and Colorado State Patrol are on-site and working to clear the roadway. In the meantime, traffic is being diverted on the shoulder, so please proceed with caution.
Please be aware that these conditions are causing blowing dust and reduced visibility, making travel hazardous. If you must travel, please do so carefully and stay alert.
According to CDOT WB I-76 reopened at about 12:10 pm near MM 168, and there is a seperate crash on the eastbound side of I-76 blocking the right lane east of Sterling.
Be careful traveling across NE Colorado.
