It was a bumpy Sunday, weather-wise, across Northeast Colorado, as severe thunderstorm warnings went off throughout the late afternoon and well into the evening hours. A severe thunderstorm
warning was issued at around 3:30 pm (MDT) for Logan, Phillips, and Sedgwick Counties with reports of 60mph winds and quarter to half-dollar-sized hail. Storms formed west of Brush along HWY 34 at the time also.
As the system grew, a Tornado Warning went out at 3:55 pm for east central Morgan County with storm spotters observing the twister between Brush and Akron near I-76. The tornado touched down on the east side of the interstate, moved over to the west side, then dissipated in 5 minutes.
There were no reports of any damage. The storms were moving eastward along HWY 34 and I-76 as the afternoon continued. At times the system was moving very slowly, dumping lots of rain in spots, with flood advisories for the extreme eastern plains and the tri-state area well into the night.
Washington and Yuma Counties had severe thunderstorm warnings that lasted until 8:15 pm on Sunday, with the system breaking up by 9 pm and moving east. There is a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms again for the region today.
