The severe weather season has already delivered strong storms along with damaging hail and winds across Northeastern Colorado, and the month of May isn’t even over yet.
On Tuesday, May 27th, another round of thunderstorms moved across the region, as the National Weather Service issued weather warnings for Weld & Morgan Counties, as a tornado reportedly touched down over New Raymer late in the afternoon. The twister was confirmed by Weld County emergency management, as trained spotters described the tornado as ‘skipping across the ground’ over open fields, in an area about 23 miles north of Fort Morgan.
There was an outbuilding that was heavily damaged, but no injuries were reported.
The storm system was tracked moving southeast at about 20 MPH. A system that came through the region the previous Friday spurred a few tornado warnings for Washington and Yuma Counties as well. There were also reports of large hail as a result of the storms. A reminder to monitor the weather forecasts and to listen to the latest information from the National Weather Service.
