Three People Killed in Crash on I-70 West of Limon

Wednesday, July 2, at 2:31 p.m., the Colorado State Patrol responded to a two-vehicle crash on eastbound Interstate 70 at Milepost 348. The crash involved a semi-truck hauling a trailer and a 2021 blue Subaru Forester. The Subaru Forester rear-ended the Semi. Preliminary investigation indicates that the Subaru Forester rear-ended the semi-truck.


The Subaru was occupied by four individuals. Tragically, three occupants, including two children, were pronounced deceased at the scene. It was originally thought that four people had been killed, but further investigation confirmed only three. The driver of the Subaru was transported to a local area hospital. The driver of the semi was not injured.


The cause of the crash remains under active investigation. Eastbound Interstate 70 was closed between Exit 340: I-70 Business West and Exit 348: Cedar Point (13 miles west of Limon) at milepost 348. There were 40 miles of backups on I-70 during the closure.


The Colorado State Patrol Vehicular Crimes Unit is the lead investigating agency.
