The Chill is Back in Northeast Colorado This Week

NWS - COLD WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 10 PM THIS EVENING TO 11 AM MST THURSDAY.


Very cold wind chills as low as 25 below expected. Weld-Morgan-Elbert-Lincoln-Logan-Washington Counties. This includes the cities of Briggsdale, Fort Morgan, Limon, Akron, Sterling, Last Chance, Merino, Peetz, Otis, Cope, Crook and parts of Southern Lincoln County. From 10 PM this evening (Monday 2/17) to 11 AM MST Thursday (2/20). The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 25 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. People will have a high risk of frostbite and hypothermia. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside. If you must go outside, dress in several layers of warm clothing, including a hat, face mask, and gloves. Avoid prolonged outdoor exposure.


NWS - EXTREME COLD WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM MST /6 PM CST/ THIS AFTERNOON TO 11 AM MST /NOON CST/ THURSDAY.


Yuma-Kit Carson-Cheyenne-Rawlins-Decatur-Norton-Sherman Thomas-Sheridan-Graham-Wallace-Logan-Gove-Greeley-Wichita-Dundy-Hitchcock & Red Willow Counties in Colorado & the tri-state area. The cities include Oberlin, Hill City, Tribune, Colby, Yuma, Trenton, Palisade, Wray, Goodland, Atwood, Burlington, Bird City, Norton, Leoti, Quinter, Stratton Ne, Grainfield, McCook, Sharon Springs, Benkelman, Culbertson, Arapahoe, St. Francis, Cheyenne Wells, Grinnell, Oakley, and Hoxie. Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 27 below expected. Portions of east central and northeast Colorado, northwest and west central Kansas, and southwest Nebraska. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of freezing temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes. Wind chill values will fall to extremely dangerous levels. The coldest wind chill readings will be during the overnight and early morning hours. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water.

Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 5 inches. Portions of northeast Colorado, northwest and west central Kansas, and southwest Nebraska. Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning and evening commutes.
