FORT MORGAN POLICE DEPARTMENT - Press Release -

On Thursday, December 11th, 2025, just before the final bell rang to end the school day, the Fort Morgan Police Department was notified of a student at Fort Morgan High School who was believed to have a handgun. The reporting party was unaware of the student's identity, but the School Resource Officer initiated an immediate investigation.

Within a short time, the School Resource Officer and staff were able to identify a potential suspect, immediately notified the high school administration, and made contact with the student. The student was escorted to the office, where a handgun was recovered from the student’s backpack.

No lockdown procedures were initiated, as the student was quickly apprehended before any threat to the students was known.

The Fort Morgan Police Department and Morgan County School District RE-3 continue to maintain an excellent partnership and work together to keep the kids safe as soon as there was a known threat.

The juvenile suspect in this case was taken into custody, and charges are pending. No more information will be released at this time.

Classes at Fort Morgan High School were canceled for Friday, December 12, with all other schools on their regular schedule. The Crisis Response Team is available for anyone who needs it.
