On Friday, September 12th, a suspect wanted in an assault case out of Sterling was arrested Friday afternoon in Yuma after a multi-agency operation.

Sterling police alerted Yuma officers around 4:25 p.m. that the suspect, identified as 39-year-old John Byrd of Sterling, might be in the 600 block of South Columbus Street. Officers from Yuma police, the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office, and Sterling police responded and arrested Byrd without incident.

Byrd was turned over to the Sterling Police for further investigation. Authorities said a second person was also taken into custody at the scene.

John Byrd had a warrant issued for his arrest for a reported stabbing in the 300 block of Franklin Street in Sterling on Thursday night, September 11th. It was reported that he had fled the scene in a gray four-door sedan driven by an unidentified male.

Police praised the joint effort, calling the arrest a result of quick coordination and teamwork among the agencies.
