Sterling Police Department-
On September 26, 2024, at approximately 7:30 PM, Sterling Police responded to multiple reports of shots fired and a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian and another vehicle. Initial investigations revealed a dispute at a
residence in the 700 block of Sidney Ave, where shots were reportedly fired. However, no evidence was found to substantiate these claims. Officers encountered uncooperative witnesses at this location.
A subsequent disturbance occurred near the Skate Park in the 400 block of Washington Street. During this incident, it was reported that Cynthia Moore, 24-year-old of Sterling, allegedly shot at, not hitting, a 38-year-old female victim of Sterling. It was also reported that Moore then struck her with a white Cadillac Escalade before fleeing the scene. A male associated with the victim, then pursued Moore in a blue Toyota Corolla, leading to a collision. Both vehicles fled the scene. As a result of being struck by the vehicle Moore was
driving, the victim was treated and released at SRMC.
At approximately 4:30 AM on September 27th, officers located the white Cadillac Escalade in the Applewood Mobile Home Park, and it was taken as evidence. The officers were not able to locate anyone at that time the vehicle was recovered.
Later in the morning, Sterling police received a 911 call from a resident of a home in the Applewood Mobile Home Park indicating that Moore had threatened her with a gun. It was learned this is where Moore was also
residing, and the caller was a co-resident of the home. Officers responded and safely removed the caller before taking both Moore and a male associate into custody without incident.
Moore faces the following charges:
Two counts of 2nd Degree Attempted Murder, a Class 3 Felony
Three counts of Felony Menacing, a Class 5 Felony
Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a Class 4 Felony
Resisting Arrest, a Class 2 Misdemeanor
This was a targeted incident, as the subject and victim were known to each other. There was no overt threat to the public, and Moore is currently being held at the Logan County Jail. All parties are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The Sterling Police Department thanks the Logan County Sheriff's Office and the Sterling Fire Department for their assistance.
The investigation is ongoing, to include search warrants, evidence collection, etc. and anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Russ Baca at 970-522-3512 Ext. 4227.
