Sterling Police Department Arrests Two Suspects in Connection with Multiple Storage Unit Burglaries

Sterling, CO – January 20, 2025


On Sunday, January 19 th around 1:45 PM, The Sterling Police Department responded to a burglary report at the storage units located at 802 S. 11th Ave, where they discovered a storage unit had been forcibly entered and items had been stolen. Officers began investigating the scene and reviewing surveillance footage from the facility, which revealed two male suspects driving a GMC Yukon who were involved in the break-in.


While on scene conducting the investigation, officers observed the suspects return to the scene in the same vehicle observed in the footage. Officers contacted the individuals and, following their investigation, arrested the two males in connection with the burglary.


During interviews with the suspects, authorities learned that multiple units had been broken into, not only at Mike’s Storage, but also at Mini Storage, located at 203 S. 9th Ave. Further investigation revealed the stolen property was being stored in an apartment in the 200 block of Lincoln Street in Sterling.


Officers responded to the apartment securing the residence while a search warrant was obtained. A female subject at the apartment, identified as Kelsey Munster, 33 of Sterling, was uncooperative and provided false identifying information. Ms. Munster who had an outstanding arrest warrant for assault on

a peace officer from Montrose County, physically resisted arrest and was ultimately taken into custody. She was subsequently transported to the Logan County Jail.


As a result of executing the search warrant, a large quantity of stolen property, including several firearms, believed to be taken from multiple storage units, were discovered. The stolen items are believed to originate from numerous different storage units. Officers are in the process of identifying the owners of

the property and contacting them.


The suspects are identified as Jeremiah Smith, 36 of Sterling, and Ethan Munster, 32 of Sterling :


Ethan Munster’s Charges Include:

  • 2nd Degree Burglary, C.R.S. 18-4-203 (2), Class 4 Felony

  • Theft, C.R.S. 18-4-401(1)(f), Class 6 Felony


Jeremiah Smith’s Charges Include:

  • 2nd Degree Burglary, C.R.S. 18-4-203 (2), Class 4 Felony

  • Possession of Burglary Tools, C.R.S. 18-4-205(2), Class 5 Felony

  • Theft, C.R.S. 18-4-401(1)(f), Class 6 Felony

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance, C.R.S. 18-18-403.5, Misdemeanor

  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, C.R.S. 18-18-428, Petty Offense


Kelsey Munster’s Charges Include:

  • Obstructing Government Operations, C.R.S 18-8-102, Misdemeanor

  • Montrose County Warrant for Assault on a Peace Officer


The Sterling Police Department urges residents to take appropriate measures to secure their storage units. It is recommended that disc padlocks be used, as they are highly resistant to tampering, including being strike-proof, drill-proof, and pick-proof. If you suspect that your unit has been compromised, please

inspect it promptly and report any damage or missing items.
