National Weather Service - *RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM THIS MORNING TO 6 PM MST THURSDAY EVENING FOR WIND AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR THE NORTHERN I-25 CORRIDOR AND MOST OF THE EASTERN PLAINS...
*UPDATE - The National Weather Service in Denver has issued a Red Flag Warning for wind and low relative humidity, which is in effect from 9 AM to 6 PM MST Friday. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect. This is for Larimer, Weld, Morgan, Adams, Arapahoe, Elbert, Lincoln, Logan & Washington Counties in Colorado.
*WINDS...Thursday, northwest winds 15 to 30 mph with gusts of 35 to 50 mph. For Friday, Northwest 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph.
*RELATIVE HUMIDITY...13 to 20 percent.
Conditions will be favorable for rapid fire spread. Avoid outdoor burning and any activity that may produce a spark and start a wildfire.
*HIGH WIND WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 5 PM MST FRIDAY. For all of Northeast Colorado, including the towns of Fort Collins, Greeley, Fort Morgan, Byers, Briggsdale, Sterling, Akron, Julesburg, and Holyoke.
Watch for Northwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected, as some areas could see wind gusts up to 75 mph.
*Strong winds will accompany a cold front this evening. A lull in the stronger winds is expected overnight before they increase again early Friday morning. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution. Avoid outdoor burning or any activity that may cause sparks. The strong winds will likely fuel rapid fire growth.
**RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM THURSDAY MORNING TO 5 PM MST THIS AFTERNOON FOR WIND AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR Yuma-Kit Carson-Cheyenne-Sherman-Wallace counties in Colorado & the tri-state area. this is for Yuma-Kit Carson-Cheyenne-Sherman-Wallace counties as well.
**WINDS...Thursday, Northwest 20-30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Friday, Northwest 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph.
**RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 13 percent.
** HIGH WIND WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 8 PM MST /9 PM CST/ THIS EVENING TO 5 PM MST /6 PM CST/ FRIDAY. This is for all of Northeast Colorado & the tri-state region.
Northwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph expected. High winds may move loose debris, damage property, and cause power outages. Travel could be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. Plumes of blowing dust will create pockets of low visibility. Visibility will likely change rapidly over short distances, making travel hazardous in these areas.
Unpredictable fire behavior. Any fires that develop may rapidly grow and spread out of control. Comply with burn bans and regulations. Avoid driving on dry grass or brush. Maintain your vehicle's brakes and tires, and secure the tow chains to prevent dragging. Never toss lit cigarettes onto the ground.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now....or will shortly. A combination of strong winds...low relative humidity...and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
