PRESS RELEASE - Fort Morgan Fire Department - Important Notification for Morgan County Residents: Due to heightened fire danger, as indicated by the recent numerous large grass fires, all Morgan County fire departments have agreed to provide a unified response to any reported grass fire. In the event that a controlled burn is not reported and a fire is reported to 911, all four county fire departments will be dispatched to the location. It is vital that individuals conducting controlled burns notify the Morgan County Communications Center at 970-867-5678.
*Morgan County Automatic Mutual Aid for Grass Fires - Due to current high fire danger and rapidly moving grass fires across Morgan County, all local Fire Chiefs have come together with a unified approach to protect our communities.
Effective March 12 through June 30, 2026, automatic mutual aid will be in place for all grass fires within Morgan County.
What this means: When a grass fire is reported, ALL Morgan County Fire Departments will be dispatched immediately—ensuring a fast, aggressive response when it matters most.
Agencies involved:
• Wiggins Fire Department
• Fort Morgan Fire Department
• Brush Fire Department
• Hillrose-Snyder Fire Protection District
Dispatch will initiate a countywide fire tone and coordinate responses across all departments to streamline operations and improve response times. This decision was made collaboratively by Fire Chiefs across the county, recognizing the increased risk due to dry conditions and recent fire activity.
⚠️ Public Reminder:
• Avoid outdoor burning
• Secure trailer chains to prevent sparks
• Use extreme caution with anything that could ignite dry grass
• Call 911 immediately if you see smoke or fire
This proactive step ensures Morgan County is ready to respond quickly and effectively to protect lives, property, and our communities.
