At the recent City of Fort Morgan City Council meeting there was a special presentation & recognition by Mayor Kevin Lindell and the City Council, of the School Resource Officer, First Responders, and the Fort Morgan Middle School Staff, for their quick response to a student in emergency medical need. The life-saving incident occurred on Thursday, August 28th, at 12:14 pm at Fort Morgan Middle School. As Mayor Lindell said, these people are true heroes. The 12-year-old boys felt dizzy at recess and collapsed. The boy had suffered cardiac arrest and had to be shocked twice to get his heart moving again. He was transported to HCA HealthOne Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children, and good news, he is doing fine and is back with his family. City Council member Loren Boyett said, ‘these things are happening every day, we have such a burden of responsibility on our school personnel, our first responders. All of the things we don’t care about every day are really what we are celebrating right now. Every single day we ask you…… and you do a fabulous job.’ After handing out the certificates to everyone from the school nurses, SRO Jonathan Renteria, the teachers, and the EMTs from the Morgan County Ambulance service, including Travis Freemen and his crew. The student's father stood at the podium thanking everyone. He appreciated the training that was shown that day, and he couldn’t be more grateful.
