For the third week in a row, Sterling Tigers football will play on Thursday Night. They host the Arvada Bulldogs with kickoff scheduled for 7:30. Last year the Tigers fell to the Bulldogs 53-21. Both teams need a win in this one to keep playoff hopes alive. The Selection Index currently has Arvada at 22 and Sterling at 23 with the top-16 qualifying for the postseason. A win for Sterling also keeps league title hopes alive which comes with an automatic bid.
Last week football defeated Timnath on the road 28-10. The Tigers trailed 10-0 early, before scoring late in the 1st half to make a 10-7 halftime score. The Tigers outscored the Cubs 21-0 in the 4th for the win.
Volleyball finds itself in one of the hardest stretches of schedule you'll find in the state this season. On Tuesday, the girls lost a tough battle against 6th ranked Liberty Common in 5 sets. The Tigers are 10-6 on the season, 7-4 in Patriot League play. They host 3rd-ranked Eaton on Thursday night at 6pm. Then on Saturday it is the annual Sterling Tigers Invitational where they will face off against the top-ranked team from both 2A and 1A in Wiggins and Merino. Plus they will face two more top-10 3A clubs in Alamosa and Lamar.
Softball qualified for its' 12th straight State Tournament last weekend, defeating Peak-to-Peak in the first round of Regional action in 6 innings, 13-3. The Tigers could not overcome a 6-run deficit against Wiley in the Regional Championship as their comeback bid came up a run short, losing 8-7. The Tigers are the 9-seed this weekend and will face 8-seed Sierra in the 1st round at 10am from the Aurora Sports Complex. If Sterling wins, they will face the winner of top-seeded Eaton and 16-seed Meeker at 2:30. Semifinals and finals will take place on Saturday.
Boys soccer is down to its final match of the season on Thursday, when the Tigers travel to DSST: College View. The boys lost at Valley last Thursday 8-3. They lost their final league match of the season at Weld Central on Tuesday, 6-0.
