Yuma County Sheriff’s Office –

On Wednesday, May 21st, the W-Y Communication Center received a 911 call from an individual numerous times. The caller was located at a dead-end residence on County Road 38 about where CC.5 would be.

Undersheriff Larry Gilliland tried contacting the party via phone calls numerous times, but to no avail. The Undersheriff responded to the address, parking in the driveway and activating his emergency lights, while shining a flashlight at the house. He heard a loud unidentifiable noise, that he thought might be gunshots, as Sheriff Todd Combs responded to the scene. The two then approached the house using night vision and thermal devices. Two more muffled gunshot sounds came from the house, as they tried once again to call the individual.

Sheriff Combs decided to call the SPEAR Team, as the individual answered one of the phone calls. During the nearly 2-hour encounter, it was determined that the individual feared that someone was coming to get them, thus the reason he was shooting them. After the SPEAR Team was deployed, the individual was talked into coming out peacefully. He surrendered to the Sheriff and Undersheriff, without any injuries involved.

He was transported to the hospital for observations, as he faces various charges for his actions. If anyone in the area of CR-37 & CR-CC.5 has discovered bullet holes in their property, please contact the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office. 970 332-4805.
