Fort Morgan Fire Department Annual 9/11 Stair Climb

There was a decent turnout of firefighters and citizens for a beautiful Saturday morning, September 7th at 8:30am, as folks gathered at Legion Field in Fort Morgan for the 2nd Annual Fort Morgan Fire Departments 9/11 Memorial stair climb.

Fort Morgan Fire Chief Trae Boehm addressed the crowd, as there was a moment of silence to honor Kyle Scott who was killed last week in a plane crash near Brush. Following the singing of the National Anthem, fire crews put on all their gear, and along with many citizens started the stair climb. The climb was patterned out on the home team bleachers, as those participating on Saturday morning walked up and down the isles of the bleachers twice on each side of the press box, then down the ramp, moving to the other side in front of the bleachers to the opposite ramp, and starting the pattern over again. This was completed 12 times to copy the 2,200 steps that represented the number of stairs that were climbed in the Twin Towers by first responders on September 11, 2001. At the end of the climb each person rang the fire bell in honor of those lost. There was also the option of walking around the track at Legion Field 4 times to match the steps.
