For the entire month of September, all Logan County fire departments will be continuing annual efforts of raising money for Fill the Boot, a nationwide firefighter fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. All money collected through Fill the Boot goes to MDA to help aid in research as well as life aid and improvement for both kids and adults suffering from forms of muscular dystrophy.
In previous years, funds were collected in Sterling in the blistering summer heat of Labor Day weekend, with firefighters standing outside holding out boots to collect donations. 2023 will bring a different form of fundraising to Logan County. Donation cards will be posted in participating businesses throughout Sterling and Logan County. Embedded on the cards will be QR codes that correspond to each fire department in Logan County. If you wish to donate to Fill the Boot, but want your donation to be represented by your hometown (Crook, Fleming, Merino, Peetz, and Sterling), scan the corresponding QR code for the town and donate over your phone! This creates a friendly competition between your local fire departments on who can raise the most money in the month of September.
In addition to donating using the card, Parts & Labor has graciously collaborated in this project. In the month of September, Parts & Labor will be serving a seasonal firefighter beer (First Due). A portion of each First Due sold goes directly to Fill the Boot. In September, bring your friends and family to Parts & Labor, enjoy your food and drinks, and support and wonderful cause!
Sterling Fire Department will still be taking donations in person at their fire station. Cash or check donations can be delivered to the fire station at any time during the month of September. Checks need to be made payable to MDA. Any questions, call the fire station (970) 522-3823.
