Fatal auto/ped crash on I-76 in Commerce City close the interstate during Friday morning rush hour

PRESS RELEASE - Colorado State Patrol - Fatal Crash on Interstate 76 Closes the Road, Westbound lanes are blocked at milepost 6 in Denver.
(Adams County, COLO) – This (Friday) morning, April 24, 2026, at approximately 6:09 a.m., the Colorado State Patrol responded to the area of Interstate 76 westbound at milepost 6, just east of Interstate 25, and south of Thornton, for a vehicle vs pedestrian fatal crash.
Preliminary investigation information shows that a Peterbilt trash truck was westbound on Interstate 76 when it struck a pedestrian walking on the Interstate. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene.
Currently, the westbound lanes on Interstate 76 are closed for crash investigation, and traffic is being diverted to the lower junction. There is no estimated reopening time. Check COTrip.org for the most up-to-date information on road closures.
