Fatal crash in Weld County under investigation by the Colorado State Patrol
PRESS RELEASE: Colorado State Patrol - (WELD COUNTY, COLO) – Wednesday, October 21, at approximately 7:05 a.m., the Colorado State Patrol responded to a multi-vehicle crash on southbound Highway 85 at milepost 262 (north of Crystal River Road), near La Salle, CO.
Preliminary reports indicated that a white box truck traveling northbound on Highway 85 lost control, crossed the center median, struck a Toyota Matrix head-on, and then struck a Honda Accord.
The driver of the box truck, a 25-year-old male from Thornton, CO, sustained serious bodily injury.
The driver of the Toyota Matrix, a 29-year-old male from Thornton, CO, was pronounced dead on scene. The Weld County Coroner will release the identity of the deceased once next of kin has been notified.
The driver of the Honda Accord, a 36-year-old male from Greeley, CO, sustained moderate injuries.
Preliminary details indicate that the driver of the box truck and the driver of the Toyota were not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The driver of the Honda was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The crash investigation is ongoing, with no cause determined at this time.
Highway 85 was reopened at approximately 12:18 p.m. The roadway was closed for approximately 5 hours and 15 minutes.
