Evergreen High School Shooting

A tragic scene unfolded Wednesday afternoon at Evergreen High School, where three students were critically injured in a shooting on school property. Authorities later confirmed that the suspected gunman — also a student — died from his own self-inflicted injuries.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting happened just after 12:30 p.m. Students were quickly evacuated, and hundreds of parents lined up at Bergen Meadow Elementary School to reunite with their children.
St. Anthony’s Hospital confirmed it received three minors in critical condition. A fourth person suffered minor injuries. Sheriff’s spokesperson Jacki Kelley said the weapon used was a handgun, but the motive remains unclear.
More than 100 officers and FBI agents responded, clearing the school within 90 minutes.
Governor Jared Polis called the incident heartbreaking, saying students deserve to feel safe in classrooms across Colorado and the nation.
Evergreen High School, home to about 900 students, now joins the list of Colorado schools scarred by gun violence since Columbine in 1999.
