Duck Race for the Sterling Rotary Club is a success

PRESS RELEASE: STERLING ROTARY CLUB -
A postponed Sterling Rotary Club duck race raised more than $10,000 for Rotary projects
over the weekend.
The duck race originally was scheduled to be held Sept. 20 at Sky Ranch Golf Course, but
weather made that impossible. The event was rescheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26, and was
converted to the “pluck a duck” format at The Grill at River City.
PFS Insurance Group’s Sterling office claimed the first-place prize of $500 with Duck No.
720. In second place was Amanda Langhorst, winning $250 with Duck No. 101 followed by
Sterling Livestock Commission Co.’s third-place finish for $100 with Duck No. 856.
Gift baskets were awarded to the fourth through 11 th places. Those winners were:
4th Place: Duck No. 838, won by Brandon Steele – donated by Scooters
5th Place: Duck No. 956, won by Linda Kulbe – donated by Dave & Vicki Tennant
6th Place: Duck No. 259, won by Chris Archuleta – donated by NJC
7th Place: Duck No. 670, won by Stieb Bros – donated by Bank of Colorado
8th Place: Duck No. 936, won by Jacqui Foxhoven – donated by Patty Vandenbark
9th Place: Duck No. 853, won by Sterling Livestock – donated by The Grill
10th Place: Duck No. 288, won by Mick Upham – donated by ECCLPS
11th Place: Duck No. 3, won by Steve Smith – donated by Walker’s Pharmacy
Rotarians helping stage the event were Secretary Patty Vandenbark, President Mike White,
Dennis Foxhoven, Sheila Worley, Kim Sellers, Steve Smith, and Tyler Kelsch.
Donations from the duck race support scholarships for local students heading to college and
also help fund other service projects, including dictionaries for third graders, Dolly Parton
Imagination Library Program, Cooperating Ministries, and donations to local and international
non-profits.
Club president Mike White issued a special thanks to the sponsors to this year’s contest,
whose contributions help cover the expenses of staging the duck race.
“The Rotary Club of Sterling would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to this year’s
sponsors,” White said. “Their generous support has played a crucial role in ensuring the success
of our event.”
