It was a decent turnout for the 2nd annual open house and BBQ put on by the Morgan County Ambulance Service on Saturday. The facilities at 1000 East Railroad in Fort Morgan were open to the public to come visit and tour, to get a sense of what life is like for those on call who SAVE lives.
Director Travis Freeman was present, showing his gratitude for the community's support, as well as giving folks an insight behind the scenes. Each day, Travis and his crew members serve an area of over 7,000 square miles, responding to calls ranging from traffic accidents to childbirth. They always maintain a full stock of medicines and supplies on hand, diligently tracking their inventory. His crews work 72-hour shifts, with 7 ambulances ready to roll throughout the area at any time.
The Flight For Life chopper was there for folks to tour, also, but during the event, the flight crew was called out to head to Longmont. The people at the event got a chance to see the 750 hp Airbus helicopter take off from the field next to the Service building.
Director Freeman tackles a lot of responsibility with his position, but you can tell his passion for what he and his crew do is the driving force behind what gets him going every day.
