Colorado counties are being removed from the Department of Homeland Security’s list of ‘sanctuary jurisdictions’, as U.S. Representatives Lauren Boebert and Gabe Evans work to get more places in the state off the list.

According to an article in the Denver Post, Drew Sexton, spokesman for U.S. Rep. Boebert’s office said that she and her staff ‘have been working around the clock with state legislators, county commissioners and the DHS’ to get those jurisdictions off the list that have passed resolutions declaring cooperation with federal immigration officials.

The Republican congresswoman who represents the 4th Congressional District of the eastern plains recently said in an interview that she worked with the White House to get Weld & El Paso Counties, as well as the City of Aurora, removed from the list. She is also working to remove other counties from that list, including Logan, Kit Carson, and Baca Counties.

The DHS’s list of ‘sanctuary jurisdictions’ included the entire State of Colorado as recently as Friday, May 30th, but the list on the DHS website has since been removed from the site. According to the same Denver Post article, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Representative Gabe Evans, Delanie Bomar, said the freshman Republican is advocating for law enforcement, who do their job despite the sanctuary ruling policies of Colorado.

In a press release from Morgan County Sheriff Dave Martin acknowledged that Morgan County is on that list, but he was ‘neither consulted by DHS in the creation of this list nor informed of the criteria or sources used to make such designations.’ He later stated in the release that ‘Morgan County is not a sanctuary County.’ In a separate press release from the Washington County Commissioners, County Chair Gisele Jefferson also stated that ‘Washington County is not a sanctuary county, especially when it comes to criminal aliens.’ Washington County Sheriff Robbie Furrow posted on Facebook, reaffirming within the post that ‘Washington County is in no way a sanctuary county.’ The Washington County Commissioners stated they have been working with Congresswoman Lauren Boebert and Colorado House District 63 Representative, Dusty Johnson, to provide documentation and to get Washington County removed from this list.

This is a developing story.
