No Sanctuary Status for Washington County

Washington County Commissioners were contacted this morning regarding a press release from the Department of Homeland Security. Washington County was mistakenly listed among 40+ counties of Colorado for being non-compliant with the Federal Status after Executive Order 14287: Protecting American Communities from Criminal Aliens.
March 26, 2024, the Washington County Board of County Commissioners adopted Resolution 54-2024 Opposing the Entry, Transportation, Employment, and Settlement of Illegal Immigrants in Washington County, Colorado. This resolution clearly states the opposition to Governor Polis opening the state to the unvetted illegal immigration and pushing the unfunded mandates of increased demands on human resources and law enforcement onto the towns and counties throughout the state.
“To set the record straight,” County Commissioner Chairperson Gisele Jefferson stated, “Washington County is not a sanctuary county, especially when it comes to criminal aliens. In collaboration with our Washington County Sheriff, Robbie Furrow, the Commissioners support the federal immigration law and all efforts to remove illegal criminal aliens from our communities. The protection of our citizens is our highest priority.”
The County Commissioners have been working with Congresswoman Lauren Boebert and Colorado House District 63 Representative, Dusty Johnson, to provide documentation and to get Washington County removed from this list.
