Democrat Trisha Calvarese has dropped out of the race for Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, leaving Eileen Laubacher as the party’s only remaining candidate.
Calvarese made the announcement Tuesday night, just days before the district’s Democratic assembly, and is now endorsing Laubacher—despite previously filing a lawsuit challenging her eligibility. That case was dismissed last month by a Denver District Court judge.
In a statement, Calvarese called the decision difficult and thanked her supporters, saying simply, “I’m sorry we fell short.”
Laubacher, a Navy veteran and former Republican who switched parties last year, has built a significant financial advantage in the race—raising nearly six and a half million dollars so far this election cycle.
With no other Democrats in the field, Laubacher is now expected to move forward toward a general election matchup against incumbent Republican Lauren Boebert.
Boebert won the district in 2024 by more than 10 percentage points, and the 4th District remains the most Republican-leaning in the state—setting up a challenging road ahead for Democrats in November.
