The man accused in the antisemitic firebombing attack on Pearl Street Mall has pleaded guilty to all state charges and now faces multiple life sentences.
Forty-six-year-old Mohamed Soliman entered guilty pleas Thursday in Boulder County District Court through an Arabic interpreter.
Prosecutors say Soliman carried out the June first attack against demonstrators gathered in support of Israeli hostages held by Hamas. Witnesses told investigators he threw Molotov cocktails into the crowd and used a makeshift flamethrower.
The attack injured fourteen people. 82-year-old Karen Diamond later died from severe burns and related complications.
Soliman pleaded guilty to more than one hundred charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, fifty-two counts of attempted first-degree murder, assault charges, and explosives-related felonies. He also admitted to dozens of crime-of-violence sentence enhancers.
According to court documents, Soliman told investigators he targeted the group because they supported Israel and said he wanted to kill what he called “Zionist people.”
Federal officials say Soliman overstayed a tourist visa after arriving in the United States from Egypt in 2022 and had been living in the country illegally while seeking asylum.
He still faces separate federal hate crime charges. Prosecutors are considering whether to pursue the death penalty.
