Breaking: Sedgwick County Sheriff advising public of grass fire/very dry conditions

PRESS RELEASE: The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is advising the public of an active grass fire located at County Road 39 and Highway 138, on the southeast corner south of the railroad tracks.
The fire is currently estimated at approximately 80 acres and continues to grow. Both the Julesburg Fire Department and the Ovid Fire Department are on scene actively working the fire.
At this time, no structures are being threatened.
We ask the public to use caution when traveling in the area. If possible, please avoid the area altogether to allow emergency responders to work safely and efficiently.
Updates will be provided as information becomes available.
*Another fire near EB I-76 at MM170. was roughly 5 acres and was quickly contained by the exceptional response of fire crews. Please be careful in these warm dry conditions!
