Boy Injured During Game Warm-Up

A 10-year-old Atwood boy is recovering from a severe injury following a baseball accident. Axel Smart was warming up for his baseball game when a ball hit him in the head. Axel, his parents, and his coaches thought nothing of the incident at first, thinking it was a minor injury. It turned into a serious medical emergency. After being rushed to the ER, Axel received a CT scan revealing an epidural hematoma. He was quickly flown to Children’s Hospital, where a group of skilled surgeons performed the critical operation. They were able to stop the bleeding and remove the clot from his head. Now the family faces major medical expenses, including emergency transport, surgery, and ongoing care, a GoFundMe has been set up to help raise funds.
